Aprés l’été: Sugar Scrub
For most of us, summer vacation is coming to it’s end, and work, university and daily routines are catching up on us. I love how exciting this period is in terms of new beginnings, waiting for the September issues, building a good weekly schedule, getting back into exercise and eating routines, and preparing for the new season. I love a good scrub, but on a student budget its not exactly what is at the top of my priority list, so for a part of my weekly beauty routine I make sugar scrubs. Wonderful and so cheap you can hardly believe it.
To make a portion of sugar scrub for your face you’ll need
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon poppy seeds
1 teaspoon sugar
To make a portion of sugar scrub for your body you’ll need
3 tablesppons olive oil
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1 tablespoon shredded coconut
1,5 tablespoon sugar
Combine the ingredients in two separate cups, and stir till they have a thick consistency. Now, get into the shower, and DON’T turn on the water before you are done scrubbing! Scrubbing on dry skin is much more effective (yes, it hurts a little bit more, but it’s worth it!), and when you rinse of all the sugar, seeds and coconut, the oil will work it’s wonders on your skin. Make sure not to wash it off with soap, but towel dry and leave it to make your skin super super soft. Don't be worried if you come out of the shower all red, it will disappear after five minutes!
The sugar is the main ingredient for the exfoliation, and the poppy seeds feel wonderfully soft as a contrast. I like to keep my face scrub quite simple, because the shredded coconut feels too rough on the delicate skin on my face, but works wonders on my body. Doing it right before bed is really nice, so I can crawl up under my duvet and watch Netflix with a cup of tea before going to sleep. Nothing better that waking up with goddess skin in the morning! I'm day dreaming about Paris, and can't help but start planning for my next trip even though it's almost six months into the future. Pampering myself a little is a good distraction from my heavy Paris craving, so if you need a distraction or just want to be super soft and delicious, treat yourselves to a little spa night at home, it doesn't have to be expensive!
