Silvia Unedited
Sometimes people ask me what makes me excited about photography, and the very simple reason is this: light. Different photographers are attracted to different things, for very different reasons, and what inspires, attracts and lures me in is light. When I first saw these pictures from my photo shoot with Silvia in the attic at The Royal Danish Ballet I got goosebumps. They demonstrate exactly what I love about photography: how light draws on an object and makes it magnificent. Nothing more than the play between shadow and light is behind these images, and I wanted to share them with you, completely untouched, unedited and raw. Just to show you how beautiful light is. It doesn't mean that they are perfect and without flaws, they are honest, uncensored and without filters.
This next picture might be my favourite. Promise me to scroll down really slowly and look at how beautifully the light frames her. This light is perfect. It's soft, warm and delicious, and caresses her in the most delicate way, highlighting all these gorgeous lines.
I'm dying a little from joy just looking at this.

such a stunning girl
I could easily have chosen to run these pictures through Photoshop, made her skin smoother, removed the noise from the dust, rocks and dirty windows, but I chose not to. Not because I'm against it, or don't want to change a little something on the final prints, but because I wanted to show you the naked, raw images. I wanted to show you why I'm so fascinated by light. The two pictures that are taken close up (in the sections above) have a little extra light on the shadow side because Preben assisted me with a silver reflector. It throws the light back and gives the darkness a little battle. It's a wonderful tool, as well as a diffuser, that can be used to filter bright light to make it softer.
Silvia
She is a young, Italian ballet dancer doing her very first season at The Royal Danish Ballet, and since I photographed her at the rehearsals for Etudes in the fall, she has been my muse in this ballet project in so many ways. She is elegant and graceful, yet she has very soft features and a warm personality that really shines through in the pictures. Silvia, this gorgeous dancer, is such a pleasure to photograph. Such a joy to work with, a really dedicated dancer and a beautiful person. I feel really lucky to have had the chance to do these shoots with her, and I'm hoping that this will not be the last project we'll work on together.
